This book is a comprehensive reference guide that defines fishing gears in line with international standards and supports these definitions with detailed illustrations. Based on the International Standard Statistical Classification of Fishing Gear (ISSCFG) developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the publication has been translated into Turkish and systematically presents commercial, small-scale, and recreational fishing gears used in marine and inland waters.
Covering a wide range of fishing methods—from surrounding nets, trawls, and dredges to gillnets, traps, hook-and-line systems, and diving-based harvesting—the book explains the structure, operation, and technical characteristics of each gear type through detailed drawings. In this sense, it serves as a valuable technical resource for fishers, inspectors, researchers, students, and professionals working in fisheries management.
The publication also provides an important reference for sustainable fisheries, improving gear selectivity, strengthening monitoring and enforcement processes, and supporting efforts against illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. By contributing to a shared technical language between fisheries practices and conservation policies, it supports the science-based and responsible management of marine resources.
The book is currently available in Turkish only.
