Children’s book “The Last Seaweed Pie” has been published in cooperation between the Mediterranean Conservation Society and Yıldız Tozu Publishing.

The Mediterranean Conservation Society focuses on monitoring and protecting marine species and habitats, as well as holding educational events for children and adults to raise awareness of these subjects. “The Last Seaweed Pie” has been published in Turkish by Yıldız Tozu Publishing, and it supports the Society’s educational projects for children. pThe book is available in bookshops and online, and it explains to children how pollution harms ocean life through the characters of “Sea-ple” and “Tree-ple” created by author Wenda Shurtey. The book aims to convey to readers the importance of oceans and their preservation, and communities working together. It also provides children and their families with suggestions as to what they can do to prevent pollution, with the call “Become an Ocean Hero!”

Zafer Kızılkaya, the Chairperson for the Mediterranean Conservation Society’s Board of Directors, stated “The Last Seaweed Pie has had a special place in our hearts ever since we first heard its title. The story is close to home for us, as seaweed species on the Mediterranean coast continue to decrease due to consumption by invasive species, and the ecosystem that’s dependent on the seaweed is disrupted. The illustrations in the book have a magical quality, and the story explains the bond between terrestrial and marine life in a language accessible to children over the age of four, which makes it an important work. We believe children and their families will get lost in its pages and enjoy the story.”

The Last Seaweed Pie was written by Wenda Shurtey and illustrated by Paddy Donnelly, and it is published in Turkish translation by Yıldız Tozu Publications in cooperation with the Mediterranean Conservation Society, providing children with a resource through which they can discover marine life.
