On 16 February 2026, Mediterranean Conservation Society (AKD) held an information and consultation meeting in Fethiye to present the Management Plan prepared for the Fethiye–Göcek Special Environmental Protection Area (SEPA) and to share ongoing and planned activities in the region. The meeting aimed to strengthen dialogue with stakeholders and provide transparent updates on our conservation work.
Representatives from relevant public institutions, local authorities, civil society organizations and local media attended the meeting.
During the session, we shared our science-based and participatory conservation approach in the Fethiye–Göcek SEPA, including preparations for implementing the Marine Ranger System in no-take zones, ongoing engagement with small-scale fisherwomen, educational programmes for children, and monitoring efforts focused on seagrass ecosystems. We also highlighted our collaboration with local governments and the tourism sector to promote sustainable practices and strengthen effective protection on the ground.
The meeting also covered activities under the “Support Project for the Management of the Fethiye–Göcek Marine Protected Area”, which aims to contribute to the development of a financially sustainable and locally supported marine conservation model in the long term.
In line with our transparency principles, we addressed questions raised during the meeting and reaffirmed our commitment to open communication and collaborative conservation efforts in the region.
