In Sarıgerme, home to the endangered Mediterranean Monk Seal (Monachus monachus), the Mediterranean Monk Seal Statue was unveiled through the collaboration of the Mediterranean Conservation Society, TUI Care Foundation, and with the support of the Ortaca Municipality. The statue, placed at Sarıgerme Public Beach, was created to inform the public and raise awareness among both local and international tourists about the importance of preserving the species' habitat. As part of the Mediterranean Monk Seal Monitoring and Awareness Project, initiated by the Mediterranean Conservation Society in partnership with TUI Care Foundation, this statue aims to emphasize the significance of protecting this rare species. The statue is seen as an important step in drawing attention to the threats faced by the species and in capturing the interest of locals and tourists alike.
