29.03.2024

The report of the Expert Workshop on Nature and Culture Unity in the Aegean Coast, organized within the scope of the "Cultural Landscape-Based Assessment: Nature and Culture Unity on the Aegean Coast" project conducted by the Roadside Initiative, has been published.

The project focuses on the digitization and evaluation of data related to areas with high biological diversity in the Aegean Sea and coast, as well as areas where small-scale fishing coexists (including priority species and habitats, priority areas in terms of biological diversity, fishing grounds and gear, institutional and spatial capacities, and socio-demographic structure of fishing cooperatives, threats, conservation investments, etc.) through multiple criteria. The aim is to identify priority conservation areas and share the analysis results as open-source data.

During the workshop, relevant stakeholders of the project gathered to share current data on biological diversity and small-scale fishing in the coastal and marine ecosystems of the Aegean, identify conservation projects in the region, and focus on issues such as identifying threats and solutions.
